Maharashtra has suffered damage of Rs 1800 Crore due to floods and landslides: PWD Minister Ashok Chavan

Maharashtra Public Works Department has estimated that the state has suffered a damage of 1800 Crore rupees due to floods and landslides that hit the state recently. State PWD minister Ashok Chavan while talking to media said that, due to the excess rains, flood and landslides, the roads and bridges have been extremely damaged. In Konkan alone, losses worth 700 Crore rupees have been reported while Pune, Amravati, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Nasik zones followed suit. The work to inspect the damage is still continued and with the help of photographs collected by drones, of roads and bridges, in affected areas, a preliminary estimate has been prepared.

According to the preliminary estimates, a total of 290 roads were closed for traffic while transport on 469 roads was discontinued and 140 bridges were submerged. Chavan said that he has discussed Union National Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari about the damaged highways in the state. 16 teams of NDRF are currently camping in the state for rescue work. A total of 4,45,879  citizens have been shifted to safer places. In Sangli, maximum 2,11,808 citizens have been evacuated. A total of 213 people have died in these floods while 742 livestock were lost. Raigad and Ratnagiri have been provided Two crore rupees each to cope with floods situation while a fund of 50 lakhs has been made available to other districts each.
