In Tokyo Olympics, boxer Lovlina Borgohain ensured a medal for India today. She entered the semi final of women’s welter weight category defeating Chen Nien-chin of Chinese Taipei 4-1.
In Archery, Deepika Kumari qualified for the quarterfinals beating ROC’s Ksenia Perova in the Individual category. She shot a perfect 10 in the shoot off against Perova’s 7.
Deepika will now take on An San of Korea in the quarterfinal at 11.30 a.m. today.
In Women’s hockey, India won pool A group match defeating Ireland 1-0, keeping its hopes alive in the Olympics. For India, Navneet Kaur struck at 57th minute scoring the lone goal of the match.
Indian men’s hockey team will play its group match against Japan later today.
However, in boxing, Simranjit Kaur lost to Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand in the round of 16 in women’s light weight category.
In Shooting, Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat failed to qualify for final of 25 metre pistol rapid. Manu ended at 15th position and Rahi finished at 32.
In Athletics, Dutee Chand failed to qualify for the semi final of women’s 100 metre. In Men’s 400 metre hurdle, M P Jabir ended at seventh position in round one. In Men’s 3000 metre Steeplechase Round one, Avinash Mukund Sable could not make it in the top three, despite clocking a new national record. Later today, Indian mixed relaty team will be seen in action in 4 into 400 metre Round one.
In badminton, PV Sindhu will play her quarter final against Akane Yamaguchi of Japan later today.
