After a heavy defeat by the World No.1 Australian side, the Indian team bounced back against Spain. The Indian Men’s Hockey Team on Tuesday registered its second win at the Tokyo Olympic Games by defeating Spain by 3-0 in Pool A match. Two goals by Rupinder Pal Singh (15 mins- First Quarter; 51 mins- Fourth Quarter) and a field goal by Simranjeet Singh (14 mins- First Quarter) helped India to seal the second victory in group stages.
Simranjeet and Rupinder scored the first two goals for India in the first quarter and the third goal by India was struck by the end of the fourth quarter. The Men’s Hockey Team successfully managed to defend the goals by the Spaniards till the end. With this win, India now stands at second position in the group with 6 points (two wins and one loss) so far. Australia has so far been unbeaten and is currently topping the Group A points table. The top four teams from each of the two groups (Pool A and Pool B) will qualify for Quarterfinals.
India to play against Argentina in their next match on Thursday, July 29th. India had earlier defeated New Zealand by 3-2 in its opening fixture but went down against Australia by 1-7 in the second match. Spain is yet to register a win in Tokyo.
On the other hand, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team lost 0-2 to Germany in Pool A fixture on Monday. The team to go against Great Britain on Wednesday, July 28th for their third match.
