Earlier, opting to bat first, India were all out for 225 runs in 43.1 over. After 23 overs, rain had stopped the play and the match was reduced to 47 overs. Avishka Fernando scored 76 while Bhanuka Rajapaksa contributed 65 runs for the hosts. Prithvi Shaw scored 49 runs while Sanju Samson made 46 for the visitors. Avishka Fernando was adjudged player of the match. Earlier, India won first two matches against Sri Lanka.
