Maharashtra: Heavy floods reported in Chiplun & Khed in Ratnagiri district

In Maharashtra, heavy floods are reported in Chiplun and Khed in Ratnagiri district and Mahad in Raigad district. Eighteen teams of NDRF, two teams of Coast Guard and many local teams are deployed in various parts of the state for rescue operations. No casualties have been reported yet. Team of Navy will soon join the rescue operations.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday spoke to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and discussed the situation. He assured all possible support from the Centre to mitigate the situation. AIR correspondent reports that for more than 30 hours heavy floods were reported in Chiplun, Khed in Ratnagiri and Mahad in Raigad districts. Many rivers in these districts are flowing above danger level due to which rescue teams are facing difficulty in reaching these areas. Landslides are also reported in some places.

 

Yesterday night the first team of NDRF reached the Chiplun and three teams reached today morning and started rescue operations. Two teams of Coast Guard are also helping in rescue operations. One team of NDRF is carrying out a rescue operation in Mahad and 2 more will reach soon. Rainfall has stopped in Mahad and water is receding. One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, Bhimashankar temple in Pune districts is also flooded with water due to heavy rainfall in the area. Other teams of NDRF are deployed in Pune Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli and Nagpur.

 

Traffic on Konkan railway is halted for more than 24 hours between chiplun and kamthe. Various trains are diverted or cancelled. Yesterday night, Central Railway resumed services in Kasara and Lonavala ghat area.

Panchganga river in Kolhapur district has been flowing above danger since midnight. Various State Highways and other routes are closed in Kolhapur. NDRF has deployed two teams in Karvir and Shirol taluka and rescue operations are being carried out. Water is being released from Koyna and other major dams in the area. River water has entered a low-lying area in a few villages. Around one thousand families have been shifted to safer places. Krishna river in Sangli is near to danger level. More than 150 families are shifted to safer places. Water is also being released from Khadakwasla dam in Pune.
