Union Cabinet has approved establishment of a Central University of Ladakh with the cost of Rs. 750 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised this during his Independence Day speech last year.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said, this University will address regional imbalances in higher education and create intellectual environment within the society of Ladakh.
Mr Thakur said, the University will promote overall growth and development of Ladakh and will be instrumental in strengthening the democratic values.
The Bill in this regard will be introduced for amending the Central Universities Act, 2009.
