At least 17 ‘Bengali’ migrants were drowned and 380 rescued in a shipwreck incident off the Mediterranean coast in Tunisia. The migrants were trying to cross over to Italy from Libya through the Mediterranean, Reuters quoted the Tunisian Red Crescent Society on Wednesday. The boat had set off from Zuwara on the Northwest coast of Libya. It carried migrants from Syria, Sudan, Eritrea, Mali and Bangladesh, said the Tunisian Red Crescent Society. There has been an increase in the number of people trying to cross over from Libya into Europe through the Mediterranean sea. Since June, there have been at least 3 reported incidents involving Bangladeshi migrants trying to cross over to Italy from Libya through Tunisia. 49 Bangladeshi migrants were rescued off the coast of Tunisia from a sunken boat in the Mediterranean sea on July 11. The undocumented Bangladeshi migrants had boarded the oil platform Didon after their boat sank about 80 kilometers off the coastal town of Zarzis near the Libyan border. 43 Bangladeshi migrants drowned in the Mediterranean sea trying to go to Italy from Libya on July 3, . In a similar incident on June 25, Tunisian authorities had rescued 264 Bangladeshi migrants stranded at the Mediterranean sea trying to cross into Europe from neighbouring Libya. According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) from January this year till July 21, 792 migrants have died in the central Mediterranean sea since January this year trying to cross over to Europe. DD Sports, DD News and DD India will broadcast daily shows and Special programmes on Olympics. Different sporting events at the Olympics will be broadcast Live daily on DD Sports from 5 AM to 7 PM.

All AIR Capital stations, FM Rainbow network, DRM and other interested AIR stations will broadcast programmes on Olympics. The programmes will also be carried over  AIR Youtube Channel, DTH and on NewsonAir Mobile App. Daily highlights and periodic FM s will also be given. The News Services Division of All India Radio has been broadcasting Olympics Quiz daily in its Sports Scan programme since 1st  of this month.  Winners from all over the country will get Team India Jersey.

Daily profiles of Indian team members are being given in Sports Scan Programme and Prime Time News Bulletins. Exclusive news stories focusing on India’s medal prospects, preparations of the team and support by the government as well as  exclusive interviews and special discussion Programmes are also being broadcast.

Messages of eminent sportspersons, coaches, relatives of team members and social influencers will be broadcast by AIR News and its 46 Regional News units in 77 languages. Social media platforms of the News Network of All India Radio across the country are amplifying the coverage by posting photos, videos and related stories through Tweets and Info-graphics in English, Hindi and Regional Languages.

Tonight, All India Radio will broadcast Curtain Raiser from 10:30 pm onwards. It will also be carried over Youtube Channel doordarshansports, DTH and on NewsonAir mobile App
