Asian stocks today fell amid growing fears that the spreading Delta variant of the coronavirus would harm the global economic recovery. Riskier assets fell sharply.
Singapore’s Straits Times plunged 1.3 percent and Japan’s Nikkei-225 declined one percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.8 percent, South Korea’s KOSPI slipped 0.4 percent and China’s Shanghai Composite ended 0.1 percent down.
European stocks were up in intra day trade. Germany’s DAX added 0.2 percent, London’s FTSC-100 gained 0.4 percent and France’s CAC rose 0.7 percent.
