The government has informed the Rajya Sabha that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat’ has fetched over 30.80 crore rupees as revenue since the programme began in 2014. It said, the programme has generated the highest revenue of over 10 crore 64 lakh rupees in 2017-18. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said this in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. He, however, reiterated that the primary objective of the programme of the Prime Minister is to establish dialogue with citizens on issues of day to day governance. Mr Thakur said that the main objective of Mann Ki Baat Programme is to reach to the masses across the country through Radio. He said, the programme also provides every citizen the opportunity to connect, suggest, and become part of participatory governance through the Prime Minister‟s Radio address.
Mr Thakur said, as India‟s most popular televised radio programme, Mann Ki Baat has substantial audience following. As per the audience data measured by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) of Television Channels, the cumulative reach of viewership of the programme has been estimated to range from approximately 6 crore to 14.35 crores during the period 2018 to 2020.
Prasar Bharati broadcasts this programme in 23 languages and 29 dialects on its AIR Network. In addition, Prasar Bharati also telecasts the visualised versions of this programme in Hindi and other languages on its various DD channels.
Apart from conventional mode of availability of the programme on channels of All India Radio and Doordarshan, this programme is also broadcast by approximately 91 private satellite TV channels on Cable and DTH platforms across the country.
This programme is also being made available to the listeners and viewers through “NewsOnAir” application for “Android” and “iOS” mobile users, and on various YouTube channels of Prasar Bharati. Prasar Bharati produces Mann ki Baat leveraging existing in-house resources with no additional expenditure.
