Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that a slew of measures are being taken for Police modernization. Replying to a question in the Assembly today, the Chief Minister said that 10 new commando battalion to be set up in the state and they would be deployed at critical areas. Mr. Sarma said that retired Sub-Inspector to be engaged to clear the pending cases. The Chief Minister said that his government is firmly stood behind the Assam Police in its fight against all sort of times.
On the question of alleged encounters by Police recently, the Chief Minister asserted that police would not be allowed to work against the law, but zero tolerance policy within the framework of law to be continued against criminals. He said that cops have the right to protect themselves with the law of the land.
