Union minister for Jalashakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat held a review meeting in Bengaluru today with Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa on the progress of Jal Jeevan mission. The Union minister advised the state to implement the programme of tap water supply in rural areas within the designated deadline. Jal Jeevan mission aims at providing tap water to 15.70 crore houses by 2024 in the country. He stressed that the states must ensure that potable water flows in the taps provided under the programme and not limit it to provide just the physical infrastructure.
Raichur and Yadgir districts will benefit from the Jal Jeevan Mission to begin with in the state. Speaking after the meeting, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed that 91.19 lakh families in rural areas will be provided 55 LPCD clean water through a pipe under the mission.
