Maharashtra reported 8992 new covid-19 cases taking the cumulative total to 61,40,968. According to the state public health department, 10,458 patients were discharged yesterday, while 200 people succumbed to the infection. The recovery rate in the state stands at 96.08 % and the case fatality rate is 2.03 %. AIR Mumbai correspondent reports that in the span of a month, the doubling period of corona cases in Mumbai has slowed down to 850 days from 300 days.
The Municipal Corporation has taken measures by creating micro containment zones. At present only 68 buildings are sealed in the city. Mumbai recorded 596 new cases, 13 deaths and 780 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The city now has 11,269 active cases. In Palghar, vaccination of all staff and employees working in all the manufacturing units of the district has now been made mandatory. The District Collector has ordered the industrial companies and establishments to immediately complete the vaccination of all their officers and employees.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Election Commission has postponed the by-elections to the vacant posts in 5 Zilla Parishads and 33 Panchayat Samitis in the state due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The code of conduct applicable for these by-elections has also been relaxed.
