Ladakh Marathon cancelled for second time due to Covid-19 pandemic

One of the world’s toughest and country’s prestigious Ladakh Marathon in Leh is being cancelled for the second time in a row, due to covid. Annually thousands of marathoners test their endurance in high altitude at above 11 thousand feet in Leh. Ladakh Marathon was created to encourage determination and resilience in youth.

Though Covid positive cases in Leh Ladakh have come down, Ladakh Marathon Race Director Chewang Motup said, in the event that a third wave would exhaust resources and further endanger lives, a mass gathering is inadvisable. He said, increasing anxiety regarding a third wave of Covid19, helped the organisers to come to this resolution.

However, Mr. Chewang Motup said, the organisers are optimistic that the 2022 Ladakh Marathon will continue the tradition to hold the event with the full support of the runners, the local community and administration. He also said, 2020 Marathon registrations will be valid for the 9th Edition to be held in 2022 from Thursday 7 to Sunday 11 September.
