Sensex, Nifty log modest losses in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today logged modest losses in the afternoon trade. Both stocks fell around 0.4 percent amid mixed global cues. The Sensex declined below the 52,500 mark while the Nifty was trading below 15,700 level.

The BSE Sensex fell 230 points, or 0.44 percent to trade at 52,339. The NSE Nifty also slipped 58 points, or 0.37 percent, to trade at 15,670.

At the forex market, the rupee appreciated nine paise to 74 rupees and 62 paise against the US dollar.
