External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will attend the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting in Dushanbe on 13th and 14th July. The meeting will prepare the ground for the SCO Summit, the meeting of the heads of the states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries which will take place on 16 and 17th September in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe. Tajikistan, the chair of this year’s SCO Heads of the States Council had announced the summit dates but there is no confirmation so far on the format of the summit level meeting.
Ahead of the summit in September, several meetings between ministers of defence, justice, finance of SCO member states are also scheduled. Last month, SCO NSAs met in Dushanbe. The first meeting of the ministers of industry and energy of the SCO member states is scheduled to be held in Dushanbe in July and August this year.
SCO grouping has 8 member states–Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and 4 central Asian countries–Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan. Mongolia, Belarus, Afghanistan, and Iran are observer countries, while Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cambodia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.
