External Affairs Ministry today said government’s current focus continues to be on purposing domestic production towards India’s domestic vaccination programme. Briefing the media, Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, the government is also actively pursuing enhancement of vaccine availability through imports which has helped increase the pace of vaccination in recent weeks.
Regarding COVAXIN approval by WHO, the spokesperson said, the government continues to monitor the progress. He also hoped that individual countries would increasingly recognise Made In India vaccines.
Replying to a query on the CoWIN app, Mr Bagchi said the CoWIN Global Conclave was convened earlier this week which was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. He said this was an opportunity to offer to the world India’s indigenously developed digital platform which is open source that can be shared with all. More than 400 participants from over 140 partner countries participated.
On visa issues, the spokesperson hoped that with the vast improving COVID situation, countries would ease restrictions. He said India has taken up the issue with Foreign Ambassadors such as resumption of flights. He said the Ministry is actively trying to help Indians who need to travel back to countries across the world.
