Revathi V. of Tamil Nadu has been selected to participate in the 4 x 400 metres mixed relay team for the Tokyo Olympics. Revathy emerged fastest in the trial to pick two women runners in the relay team. She clocked 53.55 seconds in the trial run for the selection.
AIR Correspondent reports, hailing from the city of Madurai, the 23-year old athlete lost her parents before ten years of age. She was brought up by her grandma who was a vegetable vendor. Revathi along with her sister stayed in government hostels and studied in government-run schools with the support of her grandma. Kannan, her coach noticed sprinter Revathy when she ran barefoot during a zonal meet. Since then, she was trained by him.
Though she suffered a little setback during her college days and gave up running, it was her coach who persuaded her not to give up. She first clinched her national medal as an athlete and became a part of the national camp. Revathi is currently employed with the Railways. Her proud grandmother told the media today that she was a girl who will never give up and will do her best.
