Sensex climbs 349 points, Nifty surges 100 points

Domestic stocks today rose supported by gains in shares of banking and finance companies in afternoon trade. The Sensex and Nifty gained more than 0.6 percent amid mixed global cues.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 349 points, or 0.66 percent to trade at 52,834. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also surged 100 points, or 0.63 percent, to trade at 15,822.

In the forex market, the rupee also appreciated 41 paise to 74 rupees and 34 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
