Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary has said that ten thousand Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) will be formed across the country. He appealed the farmers to form FPO at Block level to avail financial, logistic and marketing benefits from the Centre. During his 2-day visit to Ladakh, Mr Choudhary interacted with the progressive farmers in Zanskar and Leh in Ladakh.
AIR correspondent reports that agriculture and Farmers Welfare deputy minister Kailash Chaudhary had a whirl wind tour of Ladakh. He visited agriculture research centres like SKUAST, KVKs and CAZRI in Zanskar and Leh and interacted with progressive farmers of Ladakh.
During his visit Kailash Chaudhary said that FPOs will support farmers in processing their produce to double their income and market at ease. He said, that the Centre will extend financial, logistic and administrative support to FPOs. Hilly areas can form FPOs with just 100 farmers against 300 in plain areas. Elaborating the centre’s support to FPOs, Kailash Chaudhary said,
Under FPO programme, after registration, 15 lakh rupees will be given as equity grant by the Government against farmer’s contribution of two thousands each. Similarly, for administrative purpose eighteen lakh will be given for three years to the FPO.
IN a FPO maximum 750 farmers can be members. The more farmers in FPO, more benefit they get. This grant by the Government need not return and can utilise in any collective productive infrastructure development.
Kailash Chaudary also announced that his Ministry will declare 5000 hectares of Ladakh agriculture land as Organic Zone. He said, the centre will immediately implement PM Fasal Bhima Yojana to Ladakh farmers. He announced that the Centre will establish Yak Regional Research Centre in Leh.
Minister said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to help double the farmers income. While quoting subsidy on DAP he said PM will not transfer the burden arising from international fluctuations on to the farmers.
He said, Modi government increased Agri budget to One lakh 30 thousand Crore and 70 thousand crore directly reaching to the farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. He said, new three farm bills are beneficial with all protections to farmers.
