Wimbledon 2021: Sania, American partner advance to second round

Tennis player Sania Mirza made a winning return to the Wimbledon 2021, as she stormed into the women’s doubles Round 2 at The Championships in London on Thursday.

Sania, who is competing at the Wimbledon after 2017, teamed up with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands once again to beat the sixth-seeded duo of Alexa Guarachi and Desirae Krawczyk 7-5, 6-3 in their opening match which lasted an hour and 28 minutes on Court 8.

This was Sania’s 121st-career win.

The Indo-American pair will now face the winners of the match between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova-Elena Rybakina and Veronika Kudermetova-Elina Vesnina in round 2.

Sania Mirza’s form at Wimbledon will be crucial for India as she will be headlining the tennis contingent at the upcoming Olympics later this month.
