Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended on the green side of the market on Friday. Buying interest was seen in pharma and select financial stocks. Selling pressure was witnessed in metal shares. ICICI Bank was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 1.53 per cent. Reliance, SBI, Titan Company and HDFC were among the other top Sensex gainers, while Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints and Sun Pharma were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index surged by 0.27 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi fell by 0.01 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite declined by 1.95 per cent.
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.32 and 0.27 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 52,450 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 15,722 mark. The Sensex gained 166 points to trade at 52,484 and the Nifty50 rose by 42 points to trade at 15,722.
In the 50-share pack of Nifty50, Gland was the biggest gainer, increased by 2.83 per cent. Divis Labs, ICICI Bank, Reliance, Coal India, Adani Ports and Tata Consumer Products were among other gainers.
On the other hand, Tata Steel was the worst performer in the pack, down by 2.37 per cent. Britannia, JSW Steel, Power grid Corp, Hindalco, Grasim and Bajaj Auto were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index rose 0.51 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index surged 1.07 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Trent gained 4.88 per cent, CG Consumer rose 4.05 per cent, Oil India, PI Industries and Manappuram Finance also surged, while Adani Green Energy, Adani Total Gas and JSW Energy declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Omaxe gained 14.07 per cent. On the other hand, KEC International fell 3.27 per cent, DCM Shriram, SpiceJet, Indiabulls Real Estate declined.
In NSE sectoral indices, 10 out of 17 sectors surged. Nifty Pharma was the top performer as it gained 0.60 per cent, followed by Nifty Media rose 0.58 per cent, and Nifty Realty increased by 0.53 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Metal and Nifty Commodities declined.
