Doctor’s Day is being observed today to mark the Birth and Death Anniversary of renowned physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Various programmes are being held to mark the occasion in Kolkata and districts, maintaining COVID protocol.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid her tributes to the former CM of Bengal. In a tweet, she extended gratitude to the entire medical fraternity who are tirelessly serving in these trying times and their contribution in combating COVID-19 is unparalleled.
The state unit of Association of Health Service Doctors, an organization of doctors observed the day by paying tributes to their colleagues who lost their lives while fighting the pandemic.
According to the Indian Medical Association-IMA, over 60 doctors have lost their lives in the state in the ongoing second wave of COVID-19.
