Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation today celebrated Statistics Day, 2021 through video conferencing.
The theme for this year’s Statistics Day was Sustainable Development Goal-2 (End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture).
Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh graced the occasion as Chief Guest and addressed the participants through virtual mode.
Chairman of National Statistical Commission Prof. Bimal Kumar Roy, Chief Statistician of India and Secretary of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Dr. G. P. Samanta and Director of Indian Statistical Institute Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay also addressed on the occasion.
The representatives of international agencies namely, Chief Statistician of Food and Agriculture Organization Pietro Gennari, UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Renata Lok-Dessallien conveyed their message on the occasion.
During the event, the winners of the national awards instituted by the Ministry were announced and they were felicitated virtually.
Recognizing the importance of Statistics in day to day life and to popularize its use, the Government of India has been celebrating Birth Anniversary of the legendary Statistician, late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis as Statistics Day.
