President Ram Nath Kovind: The first President to embark on a train journey in 15 years

 

The special presidential train has departed from Safdarjung railway station in Delhi which will start the 5-day tour of Uttar Pradesh for President Ram Nath Kovind. During the tour, he will visit his birthplace Paraunkh in the Kanpur Dehat district. And later he will go to the state capital Lucknow. It is also the first tour of President Ram Nath Kovind by train in India.

Around 1 pm, President Ram Nath Kovind left for Kanpur by a special presidential train. Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and Railway Board Chairman and CEO Suneet Sharma were also present at the station to see off President Ram Nath Kovind.

A grand welcome for President

A grand welcome is planned at Paraunkh for the President. The train will make only two stops, at Jhinjhak and Rura of Kanpur Dehat. Both the stops lie near the President’s birthplace. Two functions are planned to felicitate President Ram Nath Kovind that is scheduled for 27 June.

The tour is special for the President as he will be visiting his birthplace after a long period of time. Since his first present assignment, it’s the first visit of the President to his birthplace. The stations on route have been decorated to welcome the president on his first train journey.

After a brief halt at his birthplace, Paraunkh, the President will board the train at Kanpur Central railway station on 28 June to reach Lucknow for his two-day visit. On June 29, he will return to New Delhi on a special flight.

The 5-day train tour of President Ram Nath Kovind makes him the first president to undertake a train journey in 15 years. In 2006, APJ Abdul Kalam boarded a special train to attend the passing-out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) cadets.
