Tamil Nadu CM appeals Chief Ministers of coastal states to express their objection to new draft Indian Ports Bill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has appealed to the Chief Ministers of coastal states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha,West Bengal and Puducherry to express their objection to the new draft Indian Ports Bill.

In a letter to the Chief Ministers, he said that joint action should be taken to prevent any move to dilute the powers already vested with the States. He asked the State Governments to communicate their comments on similar lines opposing the bill during the Maritime States Development Council meeting to be held on the 24th of this month.

Stalin referred to the existing ports act 1908 which states that the powers to plan, develop, regulate and control the minor ports vests with the State Governments concerned.
