The Sensex and the Nifty today added marginally amid positive cues from global equity markets. The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange gained 14 points, or 0.03 per cent, to close at 52,589. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also rose 26 points, or 0.17 per cent, to settle at 15,773.
The broader market at BSE also climbed, out-performing the Sensex. The Mid-Cap index added 0.33 per cent and the Small-Cap index surged 0.83 per cent down.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 12 companies climbed while 18 fell. Maruti was the top gainer as it surged 5.3 per cent. Larsen & Toubro climbed 2.2 per cent.
In the list of companies which fell, Asian Paints plunged 1.9 per cent and Bajaj Finance fell 1.6 per cent.
In sectoral indices shares of 14 out of 19 sectors gained. The Capital Goods sector rose two per cent and Industrials rose 1.4 per cent.
Among the list of sectors which fell, Realty closed 0.8 per cent down and Bankex sector fell 0.3 per cent.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 1996 companies gained while 1254 fell. Shares of 113 companies remained unchanged.
