With 38 days to go for Tokyo Olympic Games, All India Radio today will talk about prime male Table Tennis participant Achanta Sharath Kamal.
Born on July 12, 1982 in Chennai district of Tamil Nadu, Sharath Kamal certified for the Tokyo Games in March by beating Pakistan’s Rameez Muhammad in the Asian Olympic Qualification match at Doha.
This will be Sharath Kamal’s fourth Olympics, having competed for the first time in 2004.
But this can be the first time that Sharath Kamal would compete in two occasions in the Games, Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles.
Sharath Kamal received two historic bronze medals in Men’s Team and Mixed Doubles in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
The veteran paddler won a gold in Men’s Team, a silver in Men’s Doubles and two bronze medals in Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
A 9-time Seniors National Champion, Sharath Kamal was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.
