Embalam Selvam elected unopposed as speaker of Puducherry assembly

In the Union Territory of Puducherry, the BJP legislator Embalam Selvam was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 15th Legislative Assembly today.

The first session of the 15th Puducherry Legislative Assembly was held today, along with the election of the Speaker. The BJP legislator Embalam R. Selvam filed his nomination for the election of the Speaker on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance.

Since no nomination was received from the opposition parties , the Protem Speaker Lakshmi Narayanan announced that Selvam was elected unopposed. Chief Minister Rengasamy and the DMK Assembly leader Siva, accompanied him to the Speaker’s chair. Selvam, the first time BJP MLA from Manaveli Constituency is the 21st Speaker of the Territorial Assembly.
