BJP Legislator Embalam R. Selvam files his nomination for Speaker post in Puducherry Assembly

In the Union Territory of Puducherry, the BJP Legislator Embalam R. Selvam has filed his nomination for the election of the Legislative Assembly Speaker on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance.

Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has convened the first session of the 15th Assembly of Puducherry tomorrow and fixed the same day for the election of the Speaker. The first-time MLA and the State BJP General Secretary Selvam handed over his nomination papers to the Assembly Secretary Mounissamy yesterday.

The Opposition DMK and Congress comprising eight members in the 33-member Assembly are unlikely to field a candidate. The deadline for receiving the nominations ends Today.

If the Opposition does not field a candidate, Selvam will be declared elected unopposed by the Protem Speaker
