President, PM Modi, Sports Minister express grief over demise of boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh

President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief over the demise of Ngangom Dingko Singh.

In a tweet today, the President has said, Ngangom Dingko Singh was a great boxer and an exceptional sportsperson.

He said, Mr. Singh’s life was brief but it will inspire the youths especially from Manipur for a long time.

A Padam Shri awardee Ngangom Dingko Singh had won the gold medal in the 1998 Asian Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a condolence message said, Dingko Singh was a sporting superstar.

Mr Modi said he was an outstanding boxer who earned several laurels and also contributed to furthering the popularity of boxing.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju said, Dingko was One of the finest boxers India has ever produced.

Mr Rijiju said, Dinko’s gold medal at 1998 Bangkok Asian Games sparked the Boxing chain reaction in India.
