AFI invites athletes from Asian countries for 60th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships

The Athletics Federation of India is inviting athletes from Asian countries for the 60th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships, the last opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo Games, to be held from June 25-29 in Patiala. Athletes from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei have been invited. AFI will conduct 24 events at NIS Campus while 19 events will be held at Punjabi University grounds.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday spoke to sprint legend Milkha Singh to inquire about his health. Singh, who had tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago, has been admitted to PGI Hospital in Chandigarh. PM Modi wished Singh a speedy recovery and hoped he will be back soon to bless and inspire the athletes who are participating in the Tokyo Olympics. The condition of Singh’s 82-year-old wife, Nirmal, deteriorated with a drop in her oxygen level.
