Maharashtra: NGO helps tribal community in Raigad district to provide oil & red chillies

In Maharashtra, the tribal community living in the villages of Sudhagad tehsil of Raigad district found it difficult to get employment during the COVID-19 imposed lockdown. They started getting grain from the government, but they were worried about what to eat with the rice or roti. The activists of Let’s Celebrate Fitness, an NGO in Navi Mumbai, came to know about this. When they enquired, the tribal community asked for oil and red chillies. To meet this simple demand, the organization appealed to the citizens of Navi Mumbai and the people of the city extended a helping hand. The organization has recently distributed 1,600 liters of edible oil and about 700 kilograms of red chillies to 7,000 families in these villages. In addition, essential items, food grains have also been provided.

This organization has been working on fitness for the last ten years. During the COVID-19 imposed lockdown period, a Yoga Session was organized by them at the Municipal’s COVID Centre in Vashi to maintain the mental health of the patients. The organization also provided food to 2,000 needy people every day. Clothing Bank, Book Bank, Utensil Bank set up by the organization provide items to the needy. Taking note of their work, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has provided a storage room to the organization at Vashi Sector-9.
