The Sensex today ended marginally down and the Nifty closed almost flat amid mixed global cues. The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange slipped 85 points, or 0.16 per cent, to finish at 51,849. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange added one point to remain almost unchanged at 15,576.
The broader market at BSE logged robust gains performing better than the Sensex. The Mid-Cap index surged 1.75 per cent and the Small-Cap index climbed 1.29 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 12 companies climbed while 18 logged losses. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer as it jumped 1.8 per cent followed by Power Grid which gained 1.6 per cent. Reliance climbed one and half per cent, Bajaj Auto rose 1.4 per cent and Maruti added 1.3 percent.
In the list of companies which fell, ITC tumbled 2.9 per cent and Tech Mahindra lost 1.2 per cent. Axis bank declined 1.1 per cent and Asian paints fell around one per cent.
In sectoral indices shares of 14 sectors climbed while five fell. The Energy and Power sectors, both surged 1.8 per cent. Auto added 1.7 per cent while Realty, Utilities, Industrials and Metal rose one and half per cent each.
In sectors which logged losses, Tech Sector stocks fell 0.6 per cent and IT declined half a per cent.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 2139 companies gained while 974 fell. Shares of 171 companies remained unchanged.
