Sensex closes 295 points higher, Nifty ends at 14,942; Metal, Pharma and PSU in the lead

BSE Sensex and Nifty continue to rally towards the green side. Strong buying has been seen in PSU and metal stocks. BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 gained 0.60 and 0.80 per cent respectively today. The Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 49,500 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled above the 14,942 mark. The Sensex rose 295 points to trade at 49,502 and the Nifty50 surged by 119 points to trade at 14,942.

In Sensex shares, 25 shares out of 30 companies gained. Larsen is the top gainer as it gained more than 3 and a half per cent followed by Dr Reddy’s Lab which rose 3.01 per cent, Sun Pharma gained 2.74 per cent, NTPC surged 2.52 per cent, Power Grid Corp gained 2.42 per cent. On the other hand, 5 stocks out of 30 Sensex shares closed on the red side. UltraTech Cement plunged 1.21 per cent and Infosys declined 0.95 per cent.

The broader market at the NSE also saw positive demand. The Nifty Midcap 100 index gained 0.94 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index surged 1.53 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, BHEL gained more than 13.5 per cent, Torrent Power surged more than 8 per cent. COFORGE Ltd slipped more than 4 and a half per cent. In Nifty Smallcap 100, Sun Pharma Advanced gained 19.23 per cent. On the other hand, Navin Fluorine declined 3.96 per cent.

In BSE sectoral indices, 18 out of 20 sectors gained. The BSE Metal gained 3.53 per cent, BSE PSU rose more than 2 and a half per cent followed by BSE Cap Goods surged by 2.56 per cent while BSE IT declined by 0.17 per cent.
