Now that the first step of cancellation has been taken, the BCCI authorities are racking their brains over finding a possible window to complete the Indian Premier League Season 14.
As 29 of the 60 games have been played so far, BCCI has been exploring ways to hold the remaining 31 games in September, just before the ICC T20 World Cup. IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has not ruled out the September option but has asked to wait till Indian authorities get to know the plans of the ICC and other cricket boards.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled from October 18 to November 15 with uncertainty on the venue.
India are the designated hosts’ but the possibility of holding it in the UAE looks certain amidst the Corona virus pandemic.
With four teams carrying COVID positive cases, the immediate plan to hold the reminder of tournament after a short break looks almost impossible and that is the reason players have been released from the bio-bubble.
Meanwhile, BCCI and franchises are focusing on sending the squad members home and charter flights are being booked to Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ranchi and Delhi for the same.
