BCCI suspends IPL 2021 after several players test positive for Corona

Indian Premier League Governing Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the 14th edition of Indian Premier League in view of surge in covid cases in the country. The decision was taken unanimously in an emergency meeting yesterday.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that safety of each and every person involved with the league was the priority of the board. The development comes after Sun Risers Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman Wriddiman Saha and Delhi Capital leg-spinner Amit Mishra tested positive for Corona yesterday. Earlier, on Monday, two members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent tested positive along with the two Kolkata Knight Riders players.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, however, clarified that the IPL 2021 season has been postponed and not cancelled. He said that the decision on the completion of the tournament will be taken in due course of time.
