Counting underway for Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh

Counting of votes for Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh is underway. Counting continued for the third day today and all results are expected by this afternoon. Counting is taking place at 826 centres across the state.

State election commission said, 2,32,612 members of Gram Panchayat, 38,317 gram pradhans and 55,926 members of Kshetra panchayat and 181 zila panchayat members have been elected so far.

Lakhs of candidates were in fray for over 7 lakh 32 thousand seats in gram panchayat wards, more than 58 thousand in gram panchayats, 75,852 in Kshetra panchayats and 3050 in Zilla Panchayats. Elections were held over four phases in the state. More than 3 lakh candidates were elected unopposed. State election commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting.
