The Government of India on Saturday, May 1 announced that it has provided more than 16.37 crore vaccine doses to States/Union Territories free of cost. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 15,58,48,782 doses till May 1.
Lakshadweep reported the highest percentage of vaccine wastage with 9.76%. On the other hand, Meghalaya recorded 4.01% of wastage.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare also informed that more than 79 lakh doses are still available with the States/UT to be administered to people. Furthermore, nearly 17 lakh doses are also in line to be received by the States/UT in the next 3 days.
The government is on a covid vaccination drive in the country. It is an integral component of the five-point strategy of the Government of India to fight the pandemic (including Test, Track, Treat, and COVID appropriate behaviour).
The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country as part of the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination stands at 15,49,89,635. In the last 24 hours, more than 27 lakh vaccine doses were administered.
Meanwhile, the phase 3 strategy of the Covid-19 vaccination drive started today, May 1, 2021. The registration window for new eligible population groups for vaccination too commenced on April 28. A total of 16,65,22,287 people have registered for vaccination of which 26,42,933 people registered today till 2:25 PM.
So far, over 2.66 crore people have registered in the third phase of the vaccination drive. It is mandatory to pre-register for vaccination either on CoWIN portal or Aarogya Setu.
