Area under summer crops show rising trend in country this year

Area under summer crops has shown an increasing trend in the country this year. The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry has informed that sowing of summer crop is 21.5 per cent higher this year in comparison to corresponding period. The total crop area has increased to 73.76 lakh hectares from 60.67 lakh hectares.

The area sown under Pulses, Oilseeds and Rice has increased this year. Sowing of Pulses has increased to 12.75 lakh hectare which shows nearly a hundred per cent increase. Area sown under Oilseeds have increased to 10.45 lakh hectare which is 16 per cent more from the previous period.

Sowing of Rice has also increased to over 39 lakh hectare which is an increase of around 16 per cent in comparison to corresponding period. Summer sowing is likely to be completed by the first week of May.
