West Bengal reported the highest single day spike of 7 thousand 7 hundred and 13 covid cases yesterday as the total covid-19 cases crossed 6 lakhs 51 thousand with 34 fresh fatalities. Kolkata registered a record one-day jump of 1 thousand 9 hundred and 98 new cases and 10 deaths while North 24 Parganas reported 16 hundred and 39 fresh cases with 8 fatalities in the last 24 hours. Already 61 hospitals in the state have been dedicated for treating Covid patients with 7 thousand 6 hundred 76 beds and 525 ventilators.
Almost 18 hundred beds have ICU or HDU facilities. The state government has issued a fresh advisory to tackle the surge of Covid cases. AIR Correspondent reports that in an attempt to effectively control and contain the spread of covid pandemic in the poll bound state with three more phases to go, the West Bengal government has issued a fresh advisory and posted 21 senior IAS officers as nodal officers in districts last night.
The officers have been asked to visit the districts immediately and guide the administration on covid crisis management. The advisory stresses upon effective enforcement of Covid protocol like wearing masks, sanitisation and physical distancing in crowded places like markets, public and private transport.
Attendance in state government establishments will not exceed more than 50 percent in a single day. It also stresses upon ensuring staggering of work in shops, markets, industrial and commercial establishments. Private establishments have been advised to re-introduce work-from-home (WFH) or strictly follow rotational shifts as far as possible.
All persons in charge of workplaces have been asked to ensure wearing of masks and adequate physical distancing among workers and other staff. Complete sanitisation of the entire work place at least once a week has to be taken up by all public and private offices, business places, industrial and commercial complexes. The government has also clearly stated that strict action shall be taken in case of any violation.
