Election Commission imposes ban of 24 hours on BJP leader Sayantan Basu

Election Commission has imposed a ban of 24 hours on the BJP leader Sayantan Basu during which he will not be allowed to campaign during the ongoing Assembly Polls in West Bengal. The ban period will come into effect from 7PM today  to 7 PM tomorrow. The ban was imposed as the Commission found his remarks in violation of Model Code of Conduct, MCC. The Commission has  warned and condemned Mr Basu and strongly advised him to desist from using such statements while making public utterances during the period when Model Code of Conduct is in force.

In reply to the Commission’s notice, the BJP leader said that he never intended to make any statement contravening MCC and if at all, any of his expression is construed as violation of any provision of MCC or other provisions of law, he respectfully submits that he shall be careful in future and he regrets his remarks.
