Chemical and Fertilizers Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Friday said that Government is taking every necessary step to accelerate the production facilities of Remdesivir, it’s capacity enhancement and availability. Mr Gowda today held a meeting with the Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya, Pharmaceuticals Secretary, Chairman National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, NPPA and Drugs Controller General of India on the issues related to the availability of Remdesivir. He said, Government has taken several measures to increase the supply of Remdesivir.
Mr. Gowda said, the production has gone up from 28 lakhs vial per month to 41 lacs vial per month during the last week. The Minister said, total 6.69 lakhs vials of Remdesivir have been made available to different States and UTs during the last 5 days. He said, the supply has been ramped up in the most effective states.
He said, Remdesivir placed under Export ban from 11th of this month to increase supply in domestic market. The Minister said, its supplies of approximately 4 lakh vials meant for Export is being diverted by manufacturers to fulfil domestic requirement. He said, Special Economic Zones and Export Oriented Units are also being enabled to supply for domestic market. Mr Gowda said, on Government’s intervention, major manufacturers of Remdesivir have voluntarily reduced its Maximum Retail Price MRP ranging from 5 thousand 400 rupees to less than 3 thousand 500 rupees by 15th April. He said, it will support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to fight COVID19. The Minister said, Department of Pharmaceuticals and NPPA is continuously monitoring the production of Remdesivir.
