EC holds all party meeting in West Bengal to discuss election campaign during pandemic

The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal Dr. Aariz Aftab had called an all party meeting on Friday in Kolkata to discuss the election campaign-related matters during the Covid-19 pandemic. All the political party representatives who attended the meeting agreed to follow the Covid protocol which will be introduced by the Election Commission.

The BJP leader Swapan Das Gupta told media persons after the meeting that they will adhere to all Covid-related protocols but the Election Commission must balance the needs of robust democratic culture with safety norms. He said a level playing field should be created. The Rajya Sabha member and CPI(M) leader Bikash Bhattacharya stressed that the Covid protocol must be strictly implemented by the Election Commission. Partha Chattopadhyay of TMC said that the Election Commission should reduce the number of phases in the West Bengal election to curb the pandemic. He however said that sufficient time should be given to political parties to campaign.
