Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur paid floral tribute to the Father of Indian Constitution and first Law Minister of India Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 130th birth anniversary by garlanding his statue at Ambedkar Chowk in Shimla today.
While interacting with electronic media, the Chief Minister said Dr. Ambedkar not only drafted the Constitution of India, but also took up various issues of the poor, downtrodden, scheduled castes and other weaker sections of the society. He said Dr. Ambedkar felt that education was the right weapon to fight social slavery and it can enlighten the downtrodden masses to come up and gain social status, economic betterment and political freedom.
The Chief Minister said Dr. Ambedkar devoted his whole life to fight the eradication of caste by proliferating a movement against the evils of the caste system.
Jai Ram Thakur requested the people of the State coming back from various parts of the country to isolate themselves at their homes as a precautionary measure.
Later, the Chief Minister also visited the BJP State Office and paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.
