Year Ender 2020: COVID Jan Andolan yielded more than expected results

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Covid Jan Andolan on 8th October to appeal to the people to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.  Washing hands, wearing masks properly and maintaining do gaz ki doori. Our Correspondent reports that the campaign has yielded more than expected results.

The initial spike in Corona cases stabilized with lockdowns which came into effect from March. However, a spurt was noticed as the mobility increased with the phased Reopening. With the upcoming festive season in sight, experts advised people not to lower guard and resort to COVID Appropriate Behaviour. The Three simple steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 became the mantra as the Prime Minister made a clarion call to make it a mass movement.

Leading influencers like the medical experts, sportspersons, film stars etc. came on AIR News and other platforms to voice their support.

Within the first week of its launch, the ‘Jan Andolan’ campaign garnered 2.33 billion impressions and trended on Twitter with the hashtag “Unite2fightCorona”. And the result is for everyone to see. The daily rise in the number of positive cases which was 78, 524 on the day of the launch of the people’s movement has come down drastically by 66 percent to 26, 567 cases as of 8th December. The message has been loud and clear – The New Normal is wear a mask, maintain physical distance and wash hands to maintain hygiene at all times.

We must not forget that the COVID-19 virus spread can be halted if the people are cautious and adapt to COVID Appropriate Behaviour. Because  Jab tak Dawai nahin, tab tak dhilai nahin. Naseem Naqvi, AIR News, New Delhi.
