  • Mahatma Gandhi remembered across the globe on his 151st Birth Anniversary & the International Day of non violence.
  • India reiterates its commitment to  full and effective implementation of  Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at United Nations.
  • US President Donald Trump & his wife tested Positive for COVID18 & Quarantined. Armenia says it will engage with global powers for a ceasefire in disputed Nagorno-Karabakh
  • Lebanon and Israel agree on talks for demarcation of land and maritime boundaries between two nations.

UN CHIEF – NON VIOLENCE:-

International Day of Non-Violence is being celebrated today. It is observed on 2nd of October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, apostle of peace and non violence and the man who led freedom movement of India. Global community remembered him on this occasion. We begin with the favourite bhajan of Bapu.

 

In his message, UN Chief Antonio Guterres said this International Day highlights the remarkable power of non-violence and peaceful protest. He said, it is also a timely reminder to strive to uphold values that Mahatma Gandhi lived by the promotion of dignity, equal protection for all and communities living together in peace. Mr Guterres called for a global ceasefire to ease suffering and create space for negotiation towards peace.

PM-GANDHI:-

Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in a tweet said, there is much to learn from Mahatma Ghandi’s life and noble thoughts. Mr. Modi hoped that Gandhiji’s ideals will keep guiding India in creating a prosperous and compassionate nation.

INDIA UN WCW:-

India has reiterated its commitment to the full and effective implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly. At the UN meeting on 25th year of 4th World Conference on Women, Indian Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani said India recognises the centrality of gender equality & women’s empowerment in its developmental agenda. She said that India has moved from paradigm of women’s development to women-led development.

 

In his opening remarks , Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres said , Women’s full human rights and freedoms are fundamental to peace and prosperity on a healthy planet.

ARMENIA CEASFIRE:-

Armenia’s foreign ministry said on Friday that it is ready to engage with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for a ceasefire in disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region,. Fighting has been raging for the last 6 days in this region.

 

France, Russia and the United States are  co-chairs of the OSCE’s Minsk Group. The group was set up in 1992 to mediate in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenians over disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region in the South Caucasus.

LEBANON-ISRAEL-TALKS:-

Lebanon and Israel have agreed to launch talks on the delineation of land and maritime boundaries between the two nations. The talks will begin on October 14 , at the premises of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura.

 

Lebanon and Israel have declared overlapping boundaries in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The resolution of the dispute would allow them to exploit offshore natural gas fields.

 

The neighbouring states have technically remained at war since the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1948-49.

BELARUS SANCTION:-

European Union leaders agreed on Friday to impose sanctions on about 40 Belarus officials.

 

They were accused of falsifying presidential election results and leading a crackdown on peaceful protesters.

 

In response, the Foreign Ministry of Belarus issued a statement announcing its own sanctions against European officials.

EU TURKEY:-

The European Commission President,  Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday that EU could impose sanctions on Ankara if Turkey continues its  provocations and pressures  in the East Mediterranean. She was speaking at a news conference during the second face-to-face EU summit, in Brussels.

 

Tensions rose in the East Mediterranean, earlier this year when Turkey sent a ship into a disputed area to search for potentially rich oil and gas deposits.

COVID-UPDATE:-

Now, lets take a look at the Coronavirus s from around the world.

 

According to WHO data, the number of infected cases has crossed 34.07 million worldwide.

 

The Greek athletic federation on Friday said that this year’s Athens Marathon, scheduled to take place on Nov. 7-8, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

In South Africa,  international flights resumed after more than six-month ban on international travel.

 

Australia and New Zealand on Friday announced a partial opening of their borders to travel between the neighboring countries.

 

India has crossed a landmark milestone by keeping the active cases below the 1 million mark in a sustained manner for 10 days in a row.  The number of recovered patients has overtaken the active cases by more than five times in the counrty.

MODI-TRUMP:-

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has wished for quick recovery and good health of United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

 

Earlier today, Mr. Trump informed in a tweet message that both himself and wife Melania tested positive for COVID-19.  The two have been quarantined. Republican camp is waiting for a quick comeback of President Trump for the campaign.

PAK-BALOCH:-

A Baloch political activist has told the United Nations that the culture, language and identity of Baloch people are in danger due to Pakistan’s oppressive policies.

 

Munir Mengal, the President of Baloch Voice Association, made this statement during the ongoing 45th Session of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday. He accused Pakistan of  opting a strategic policy of colonialism and structural discrimination in Balochistan.

INDIA – BANGLADESH:-

The 2nd edition of Indian and Bangladesh Navy Bilateral Exercise Bongosagar is scheduled to commence in Northern Bay of Bengal on 3 October. Exercise is aimed at developing inter-operability and joint operational skills through conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations.
