LG R K Mathur releases first video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi language

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur released the first video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi, in Leh today evening. Ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, the National Research Institute for Sowa Rigpa (NRISR), Leh has made a video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi language. The objective is to generate awareness among the people of Ladakh on the importance of practicing yoga in daily life to ensure healthy mind and body.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mathur said, this year the International Yoga Day was scheduled to be held in Ladakh but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to be cancelled. He informed that the Ministry of AAYUSH has decided to celebrate the day using digital platforms to discourage social gathering but with the same spirit and enthusiasm.

Mr Mathur asserted that yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition and exhorted to inculcate the habit of practicing yoga on a daily basis to keep oneself physically, mentally and spiritually healthy. He said that in this pandemic situation, yoga would be a vital way to build our endurance and stay fit and healthy. LG Mathur lauded the Sowa Rigpa Institute for the video on Yoga Asanas in Ladakhi to bring awareness.

Sowa Rigpa Institute Director Dr Padma Gurmet, said that it is the first video on yoga made in Ladakhi language based on the common yoga protocol of Ministry of Aayush. He said that the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day is “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.”

Advisor to LG, Ladakh Umang Narula, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas also attended the event through video conferencing.
