Goa is hosting the 50th edition of International Film Festival of India, IFFI. The Golden Jubilee year is all set to bring new sections to the cinephiles. The Oscar retrospective has a selection of films bound to be a show stealer.
AIR correspondent reports that Casablanca, Godfather, Silence of the lambs, Forrest Gump – you name it, these are not just films, but masterly crafted jewels. Known for their ing, production, direction or acting- the IFFI is screening 10 such Oscar-winning films from 1939 to 1994.
The section was inaugurated on Day 1 of the festival at INOX Panjim. Moderated by Journalist and film critic Naman Ramachandran, the session had Festival Director, Chaitanya Prasad along with Carol Littleton. Ms. Littleton is the American film editor who worked on the restored version of Casablanca.
Ms. Littleton also congratulated Mr. Prasad on choosing such a wide range of amazing films. She said the Film Festival has genres like Romance, Comedies and Musicals.
The In Conversation session was followed by the screening of 1940’s classic Casablanca.
The film, directed by Michael Curtiz, changed the course of filmmaking.
A fast-paced, emotionally charged romance set in the backdrop of World War II, the film is one of the most celebrated and iconic motion pictures in history. It has one of the most unforgettable closing lines in Hollywood.
Audiences at IFFI will eagerly be waiting to see old favourites on the big screen again. Delegates can catch the timeless Gone with the wind this evening at INOX Porvorim.

On the occasion of the 50th year of International Film Festival of India, the festival announces a special section which celebrates some of the most outstanding films which have won the Best Film award at the Academy Awards also known as the Oscars. The Section has been aptly named as the Oscar Retrospective.
All these films have not only won the Best Film award but also had been nominated in other categories at the Oscars and have amongst them won quite a number of awards.
The films in this category are some of the most popular and evergreen Hollywood classics which cinephiles and film enthusiasts would love to eagerly watch on the big screen at the 50th IFFI.
