With barely a week left for the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, the Golden Jubilee year is all set to bring new sections to cinephiles.
The Oscar Retrospective has a selection of films bound to be a showstealer.
Casablanca, Godfather, Silence of the lambs, Forrest Gump – you name it, these are not just films, but masterly crafted jewels. Known for their ing, production, direction or acting- the IFFI is screening 10 such Oscar-winning films from 1939 to 1994.
1940’s classic Casablanca directed by Michael Curtiz changed the course of filmmaking. A fast-paced, emotionally charged romance set in the backdrop of World War II, the film is one of the most celebrated and iconic motion pictures in history.
Equally mindblowing is the Silence of the lambs. Sir Anthony Hopkins raised the standards of method acting with his portrayal of Hannibal Lector. He not only received an Oscar for this film, but was also knighted by the Queen for services in the field of the arts. And, when it comes to acting, Tom Hanks is another stalwart.
His Oscar-winning performance in Forrest Gump will be a treat to watch at IFFI. We leave you with his words from the film, proving beautifully how to conquer defying odds.
Audiences at IFFI will eagerly be waiting to see these old favourites on the big screen again.
