In Madhya Pradesh, the Independence Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety across the state.AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hoisted the tricolor in the state level function held at capital Bhopal ’s Motilal Nehru Statium and inspected the parade. In his address Chief Minister said that the government and society will have to work together for a prosperous and developed Madhya Pradesh. Enumerating the various welfare schemes of the state government for different sections, he announced that the government will ensure supply of power round the clock in all villages and towns of the state by January 2013. Mr. Chouhan also presented gallantry awards to police personnel on this occasion. Rallies, cultural and other programmes are being organized through out the across the state on Independence Day.
BIHAR (Patna)
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish kumar has declared 10 remaining districts of the state drought hit. After unfurling the tricolor at Gandhi Maidan in Patna Mr. Kumar said earlier 28 districts of the were declared drought hit now all 38 district of the state are included in the famine hit list. He exhorted people to come forward to tackle drought in the state . Nitish Kumar said the state government will extend all support to drought affected people and no body will be allow to starve due to drought. AIR Patna Correspondent reports that the Chief Minister announced welfare measures for drought affected people.
KARNATAKA (Bangaluru)
Independence Day celebrations in Karnataka commenced with unfurling of the National Flag by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. In his address, the Chief Minister mentioned about strides taken by his government and efforts taken to take the state forward on the path of progress. The celebration in Bangaluru today invoked national pride and patriotic fervour. The march past by BSF,CRPF, KSRP, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides and the band troupes mesmerised the audience. The cultural programmes that followed sang paeans about the glorious journey taken since independence and the emerging vibrant nation that we are now. Paramotor gliding display and motorcycle show by tornado motorcycle team was breathtaking. The district incharge Ministers and the Deputy Commissioners unfurled the national flag in various districts of the state and celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour.
ASSAM (Guwahati)
In Assam, despite a general strike call given by some underground outfits, the 64th Independence Day has been celebrated across the State with befitting colourful programmes. The functions were held amidst tight security. Defying the militants boycott call large numbers of citizens came out to participate in the Independence Day functions across the State. The State Revenue Minister, Dr.Bhumidhar Barman unfurled the national tricolour and took salute of an impressive march past by school children and uniformed forces at the State-level main function held at Latashil Field in Guwahati this morning. Dr. Barman is looking after the administration of the State in absence of the Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi following his heart by-pass operation. In his speech, Dr. Barman appealed to the militant outfits to shun violence and come forward for negotiating table to ensure peace and progress of the State. He said it is a good sign that some underground groups including hardcore ULFA and NDFB have come over ground by laying down their arms to sit for peace talks. He said the Government is preparing modalities to hold talks with such groups. Highlighting achievements in different spheres, Dr. Barman said the State Government has given utmost stress in up gradation of infrastructure for providing quality and job-oriented education to the youths. He said the state government has increased the allocation in agriculture sector to 803 crore rupees in the current fiscal to ensure targeted food output. He also announced providing of 10 kilogrammes of rice to around 13 lakh families below the poverty line in the State.
TAMIL NADU (Chennai)
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr M.Karunanidhi today announced that old agriculture pump sets of small and marginal farmers will be replaced with energy efficient pump sets free of cost. Addressing a mammoth gathering from the ramparts of Fort St George in Chennai , after unfurling the national tri colour, he said these new pump sets will be provided to other farmers at 50 percent subsidy.
Seeking out to reach the youth, Mr Karunanidhi said that an employment based skill development programme for Engineering, Graduates and Postgraduates besides school final students will be launched at a cost of 50 crores this year.
He said an additional sum of 1000 crores is being earmarked for road development in corporations, municipalities and panchayats. Mr Karunanidhi also unveiled the model house of the Kalaginar free housing scheme. He also distributed allotment orders to 31 beneficiaries under the project.
The Chief minister also handed over Kalpana Chawla Award for courage and daring enterprise to differently abled athelete International Deepa. He also distributed awards to organizations and individuals for exemplary service to the differently abled.
GUJARAT (Kutch)
In Gujarat, the Independence Day is being celebrated with patriotic fervour in bordering district of Kutch. The BSF jawans who are manning international border are also celebrating the Independence Day in their border out posts in Kutch district.
AIR Bhuj Correspondent reports that Lord Sri Swaminarayan in other idols in the Swami Narayantemples have been dressed in tri colour in Bhuj, Mandvi and Anjar towns.
RAJASTHAN (Jaipur)
The Independence Day is being celebrated with joy in Rajasthan. A state level function was organised at SMS Stadium in Jaipur where Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hoisted the tricolor and honored 29 civil and police officials for their excellent services. He honored Zahin Matin posthumously with Life Saving Medal who saved 80 lives during terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008. He was Chef of Taj Hotel.
Colourful cultural programmes were presented all over the state by school children on this occasion.
